Perenaars zijn bijzonder trots op hun Oud Stadthuys( Oud stadhuis ). Het in 1637 gebouwde pand is niet alleen een symbool van autonomie en zelfbewustzijn, het is ook het oudste stadthuys (Oud stadhuis) van Limburg.

De fraaie compositie van Maaslandse renaissance en barokke en Rijnlandse invloeden, maken het gebouw tot een architectonisch pareltje.

Vermeldenswaard zijn zeker de klokgevels, de uit arduin en smeedijzer opgetrokken trappenpartij en de waterpomp uit 1845. De boogvormige toegangen tot de galerij op het gelijkvloers werden pas in 1902 dichtgemaakt.

Het gebouw heeft een bewogen geschiedenis achter de rug.

In de loop der eeuwen fungeerde het als lakenhalle, gevangenis (vandaar ook de schandpaal voor het gebouw), gemeentehuis, gerechtsgebouw en bibliotheek.

The people of Peer are extremely proud of their old town hall. It was built in 1637 and its not just a symbol of autonomy and self awareness, it’s the oldest town hall in limburg.

The beautiful composistion of Maasland renaissance, Baroque and rhineland influences makes the building an architectural pearl.

Noteworthy are the clock facades, the staircase built from bluestone and wrought iron and the water pump from 1845.

The building has had an eventful history.Over the years it has fuctioned as a cloth hall, prison hence the stocks at the front of the building, town hall, court of law and library.
